HILLARY'S DOWNFALL

This may be the funniest thing ever!

I'm not a Clinton supporter, and I think that the nomination belongs to Senator Obama. I write comedy. I love satire. I am also Jewish. I lost extended family in the camps. I also speak fluent German.

This video is in bad taste.

No one who realizes what Hitler meant or stood for would ever use him or the HISTORY that is represented in this film clip to denigrate an act which, at it's core is an act of political freedom. Many millions of people (German and others) died trying to remove Hitler and his madness. They died in defense the freedom that allows us to choose between passions for the candidates of our choice.

The clip isn't concocted history. The madness portrayed in the film clip is based on the memories of the people who were there in the bunker. To make light of the historic events, and the terror which surrounded them for political grist is wrong.

I feel that if you had left the visuals, but taken away the original soundtrack, perhaps you would have some point, albeit a thin one.

The comparison between Clinton and Hitler is out of line, and as satire and comedy, it is also far too easy. There is SO much Human Comedy in any political campaign these days that cable networks are begging for a 30 hour day to get it all in!

Being funny is hard work. All this video proves is that you took an easy, cheap, shot rather than your best shot. Given all the comedy potential in the subject matter, you can do far better with only a slight effort.

Roci

Roci, sorry it offended you. That said, in my Jewish mind you are taking some gigantic leaps to make the connections that offend you. The video was not of Hitler but of a Hollywood portrayal of Hitler. Further, even if the scene portrayed is factual - which is debatable - it had nothing to do with Jews but rather that the allied forces were closing in on Germany and Hitler. Are you saying that all Hitler related jokes should be off limits?

Well, should all George W. Bush jokes be off limits too? Surely the Iraqis who have watched a foreign country preemptively attack it for oil (instead of living space) and then occupy it for 5 years to the tune of over a million dead and 4 million displaced don't find Bush jokes funny. So are Jon Stewart, Jay Leno, David Letterman and every comedian on the planet also offensive? Have you ever told a Bush joke?

Finally, it is unclear what you actually find offensive. You write that many "died in defense the freedom that allows us to choose between passions for the candidates of our choice". But Hitler, in fact, came to power in a democracy. It was the 1932 elections where his Nazi Party received 35% of the vote which made Hitler a major force in German politics and which eventually led to his appointment as Chancellor. But, even if what you say is true, why would this prevent someone from making jokes?

But then you also find it offensive because the humor is too easy a target. "Being funny is hard work". Okay, so are you advocating that all easy jokes be off limits? Do you thus complain, once again, about all George W. Bush jokes? Or knock knock jokes?

But while some of your reasoning may be unreasonable it does not preclude the fact that you were offended. And to that end I am sorry for the post.

This is hilarious and brilliant! Just what I needed, after spending the day writing a piece in response to the emotionally disturbing WaPo photo of the blood-soaked two-year-old Iraqi child being carried futilely to get medical care. I couldn't tear myself out of where I've been all day long with that piece, but this spoof on the Hollywood story did the job.

BTW, when I watched the Nuremberg Trials, as a 14-year-old way back in the Dark Ages of the mid-60s, I was moved to actual physical sickness by that reality. But this is clearly over-the-top. Didn't offend me at all.

You know, we Americans (if you are one) have plenty to feel offended about these days. My guess is that these feelings are so powerful right now for us, they are easily misplaced. Kinda like blowing up at your sweetie after having a horrible afternoon with your teen-aged daughter (which is where I am a lot of the times these days.)

I was disappointed to see that the Boston Legal clip got pulled, as you predicted. I coulda watched that one over and over and over again.

Take care.

Looks like you started something. This video is posted on most of my fave sites now.

And your fave sites are?

Do you spoze if I pitched a fit every time anyone said or did anything that reminded me of the millions wiped out by wasichu's smallpox, and cold blooded murder, and marching us into concentration camps so our land could be divvied up by white people, and booze brought in specifically to ruin us... do you spoze I could make it politically incorrect for kids to play cowboys and indians? And what would that serve?

Looks like there's lots more where this one came from....
