What is really frightening is this guy is a lawyer! Bush went to Yale and is a MBA. Perino is also a college grad. My grandfather had a 3rd grade education and could quote any passage in the Bible, Shakespeare, name every President, Vice President and who they ran against. Could navigate by the stars, knew both plane trigonometry and spherical trigonometry and I challenge any of you to even find a book on spherical trigonometry in your library. We laugh at these folks but it is no laughing matter. Our education system is a shambles! Encourage your kids to drop out before this happens to them! KC

To KC, you are wrong. College is not the only way to become free-thinking and educated or be exposed to different viewpoints, opinions, and ideas nor is it an inoculation against stupidity. However, for many modern people who are too busy or too dumbed-down(usually watching crap on american television) to educate themselves, it can certainly help. Only individuals and governments who fear an informed and educated populace fear university education. This is why fascist governments shut down universities and imprison or kill educated citizens every time they take over. This is why right wing conservatives never miss a chance to denigrate the education system. As for Kevin James, his fault is not that he is a "faggot" as some people have stupidly and irrelevantly pointed out, but that he is able to instill flawed beliefs in the minds of uneducated people. If more people were like your grandfather (with or without a university education)this country would be in a lot less peril than it is.

I tend to agree with Shawn in that since Bush came to office we have seen a systematic attack on the intelligentsia. The Bushies (and many right wing think tanks) have attacked our entire education system and made ones academic record irrelevant to obtaining the nation's top jobs. So instead of getting the best and the brightest, we saw Brownie at FEMA and hundreds of graduates from bottom tier law schools filling the ranks at the Justice Department. Not to mention Bush in the White House. Smarts can actually hurt ones chances of getting a job. And being an independent thinker will most surely kill an application. It's all about loyalty today.
In this environment it is not surprising that we get a Kevin James. He is clearly an idiot. But he is loud, stays on message and could care less about the facts. This is the preferred resume today in the world of right wing talk radio and TV for that matter.
There are still plenty of smart people being taught well by our education system. They just aren't the ones we see in the dumbed down media.

I issued an apology today to all white working class guys who don't falsely think that Obama is a jihadist terrorist, and announced that from now on, whenever I refer to someone who's a Fox-viewing ignoramus, I'm calling him/her a "Kevin James" instead of lumping them all together into a white, working-class guy category.
Wouldn't it be great if the next time a right-wing neocon-supporter can't answer an interview question substantively, the interviewer accuses him/her of "pullin' a Kevin James"?

The guy wasn't on Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity! They asked him what he was talking about!
THAT is the reason for THEIR media!
Posted by: Big Dan | Friday, May 16, 2008 at 09:51 PM
The reason for rightwing media, like FOX "news", is so guy like Kevin James can come on and shout whatever shit they want! Whatever bullshit they want, unopposed!
